Which fillers go where? Our top dermal fillers, by the area

Have you considered dabbling in dermal fillers, but aren’t sure where to start? Each filler has unique properties and is best suited for specific areas of the face, so choosing the right facial filler for a particular area is crucial for achieving your desired results.

To help you navigate the world of fillers, the expert injectors at Exhale Med Spa are listing our top fillers for each area. From under-eye hollows to the back of the hands, we have expert-approved recommendations for achieving the most natural-looking and long-lasting results possible.

Lips: Add volume and definition, improve symmetry, and smooth lines

Our favorite lip fillers for lip augmentation include:

These fillers can add natural-looking fullness and definition without drastically changing the appearance of your lips; an “inflated” appearance is a tell-tale sign of an inexperienced or heavy-handed injector.

A natural lip appearance also depends on maintaining your lip’s proportions, so we can use precise and conservative amounts of filler to achieve a balanced aesthetic that can significantly improve your look without it appearing as though you’ve “had work done.”

Just a few quick injections can also smooth the vertical lines in and around the lips, which form due to movements when speaking, drinking through straws, smoking, and natural volume loss over time.

Cheeks: Create lifted, youthful-looking contours

Our go-to fillers to address the cheeks are:

This is another area where a subtle boost in volume can elevate your look while still appearing natural. Expertly placed injections can achieve a long-lasting, lifted cheek contour and a youthful plumpness to refresh your appearance.

Collagen production also slows as we age, and many patients notice those effects in their cheek area—skin that was once supported by ample collagen stores and natural fat deposits may start to fall and create unwanted drooping in the midface and jawline.

Restoring a volumized cheek appearance can help achieve a healthier facial aesthetic.

Nasolabial folds: Soften the midface

To treat nasolabial folds, we recommend one of these fillers to get the job done:

These lines or folds frame your mouth and are generally deepened by smiling; however, some people are genetically predisposed to having more prominent nasolabial folds. Filler is injected first into deeper dermis layers and then into the more shallow epidermis layer to “fill” the wrinkles to soften their appearance. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers also help improve the structure of your skin by regenerating collagen—especially helpful in such a dynamic area of your face.

In many cases, if you want to smooth your nasolabial folds, you will likely need 1 syringe of cheek filler on each side to achieve a “lifting” effect. Then, we will work on filling the wrinkles directly at our Little Rock med spa.

Similarly, we use these volume-boosting fillers if you have “marionette” lines, or vertical lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin.

Tear troughs: Perk up your eyes

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and we choose this filler to treat the delicate under-eye area:

Tear troughs (the areas underneath the eyes) that appear sunken or hollow can cause a tired or aged appearance. Restylane-L fills in hollows and reduces the appearance of bags or dark circles by restoring volume. Some patients will need 1 syringe of this filler, while others with deep-set eyes will require 2 syringes—your injectables specialist will explain how much filler will be needed to achieve a refreshed eye appearance based on your unique anatomy.

Scars: Diminish acne scarring

Acne scars may take a toll on our skin’s appearance; that’s why we choose this filler to diminish scarring:

Acne scars often cause uneven texture, indentations, and other misalignments that make them appear more prominent on your face than on other parts of the body. Dermal fillers help diminish the appearance and texture of scars and create an overall smoother, more even skin tone by precisely injecting the filler into areas with indentations. The subtle results can do wonders to boost self-confidence in patients who have otherwise struggled with insecurities due to scarring.

Chin and jawline: Improve your profile

For sculpting a more defined chin and jawline, we use:

Adding volume and definition to your chin helps create balanced facial features for patients with a less prominent or “weak” chin. A more striking, elongated profile also has anti-aging effects and can also help the chin appear slimmer while softening lines and wrinkles in this area.

Voluma is highly cohesive (it sticks to itself), so it can be injected along the jawline to mimic the bone’s appearance and strengthen your jawline.

Nose: Reshape the nose with no downtime

For a non-surgical rhinoplasty, we opt for the following:

Restylane Lyft can be injected into specific areas of the nose to correct asymmetry, reduce bumps, or fill in indentations. We can also use this filler to augment the bridge of the nose and lift the nose tip.

One of the advantages of non-surgical rhinoplasty with fillers is that it can be performed relatively quickly, and patients can return to their daily activities immediately after treatment. It can also help patients visualize what their nose could look like before committing to a surgical rhinoplasty. (Note that major deformities or structural issues of the nose cannot be addressed with filler.)

Temples: Correct this common sign of aging

The skin at the temples tends to be thinner, and we prefer this filler to treat this delicate area:

Aging, weight loss, or genetics can cause the temples to appear hollow and sunken, making you appear older and more tired. Voluma helps fill in indentions at your temples, which can balance your overall facial proportions and redirect attention to your eyes.

Hands: Minimize the appearance of veins and wrinkles

Yes, you can achieve more youthful-looking hands, and we like to use this filler for hand rejuvenation:

The skin on your hands can lose volume and elasticity over time, resulting in a thin, bony appearance, making veins and tendons more visible. We inject Restylane Lyft into the hands to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines and fill hollow areas between tendons and veins. Adding volume to the areas that have lost fat and tissue achieves a more youthful and rejuvenated look for your hands.
