Considering Botox for the First Time? 7 Things to Know

Botox is a popular non-surgical treatment that is often the first step people take toward refreshing their appearance and softening the early signs of aging. Botox in Little Rock is safe, quick, and highly effective—but if it’s your first time, you may have questions about how it works and what to expect.

To help you feel informed and confident, our expert Botox providers, Leslie H. Branman, RN, BSN, and Hannah Wright, NP, are sharing 7 things every first-time Botox patient should know.

1. Botox results aren’t immediate, but they don’t take long

You might leave your appointment looking exactly the same (and that’s normal!). Most patients begin to notice results about 3 to 5 days after their injections, with full effects visible in 7 to 10 days. The treated muscles gradually relax, and the overlying skin becomes smoother and less lined.

If you’re planning Botox for a specific event or photoshoot, be sure to schedule your appointment at least two weeks in advance to allow your results to fully develop.

2. The goal is to look natural, not frozen

We get it, no one wants to look like they’ve had “too much work done.” When Botox is administered by a skilled, experienced injector, your results will be subtle and natural-looking. You’ll still be able to express yourself—you just won’t see those deep creases every time you smile or raise your brows.

We take a conservative, artistic approach to Botox, tailoring the dosage and placement to your facial anatomy and goals. Whether you want to soften existing wrinkles or use Botox as a preventative anti-aging treatment, we’ll create a plan that fits you.

3. Botox injections are quick, with minimal discomfort

A typical Botox appointment takes just 10 to 15 minutes, making it the ultimate “lunchtime treatment.” Most patients say it feels like a quick pinch or mosquito bite. We can apply a numbing cream before treatment, but many people find it unnecessary.

Using a fine needle, the injector makes a series of small injections into the target areas. The number of injections you’ll receive will depend on the areas you want treated and how prominent the lines are.

4. Skip alcohol, NSAIDs, and intense workouts before and after

Botox is low-maintenance, but there are a few pre- and post-treatment guidelines to keep in mind, especially for first-time patients. To minimize bruising and help the product settle properly:

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before and after treatment
  • Stop taking blood-thinning medications and supplements like aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, or vitamin E at least 3–5 days prior (with your doctor’s approval)
  • Don’t schedule strenuous exercise within 24 hours of your appointment
  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area afterward, as this can cause Botox to spread to unintended muscles

You should also stay upright (don’t lie down flat) for at least 4 hours after your injections to help ensure optimal placement.

5. There’s no downtime, and side effects are minimal

One of the biggest benefits of Botox is that there’s virtually no downtime. You can immediately return to work or daily errands after your appointment. Some patients experience mild redness, swelling, or small bruises at the injection sites, but these effects are typically short-lived and easy to conceal with makeup.

If you’re nervous about reactions or unsure what to expect, Leslie, Hannah, and our Little Rock med spa team will walk you through every detail during your consultation and provide clear aftercare instructions.

Went a few weeks ago. I had got Botox elsewhere and my brows were heavy afterwards. It was really bothering my self esteem. They saw what I was talking about and were able to fix it. I look so awake, which is important since I have two toddlers. Will be returning.

6. Botox isn’t permanent, but maintenance is easy

Your first Botox results will likely last around 3 to 4 months, though this varies by individual. Over time, the relaxed muscles gradually become more active, and wrinkles may slowly reappear. Regular maintenance appointments help keep your skin smooth and your facial muscles trained to relax.

Some patients find that with consistent Botox treatments, they need smaller doses or less frequent visits to maintain their look. We’ll work with you to find a schedule that suits your goals and budget.

7. A personalized consultation is the first step

Your first Botox appointment should never feel rushed. At Cosmetic Surgery Center in Little Rock, your Botox journey begins with a friendly consultation with one of our expert injectors. We’ll listen to your concerns, assess your facial anatomy, and discuss what kind of results you’re hoping to achieve.
