LipoSelection

Little Rock, Arkansas

At the Cosmetic Surgery Center in Little Rock, we’re proud to be able to offer you not only tumescent liposuction, but also LipoSelection, which is ultrasonic liposuction. It’s another way to remove fat and offers you less pain and bruising, and a faster recovery.

Liposuction was introduced in the early 1980s, and since then has become a popular and standard procedure for dealing with stubborn fat deposits. LipoSelection is a more recent and specialized type of liposuction, developed by Vaser® (an acronym for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance).

Ultrasound

LipoSelection is ultrasonic liposuction. It uses ultrasound (sound vibrations too high for us to hear) to break up the fat before removing it. Fat tissue contains blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue, as well as fat. In older liposuction procedures, before the tumescent liposuction that we offer was developed, sometimes these structures were damaged when the fatty tissue was removed.

By breaking up, or emulsifying, the fatty tissue with ultrasound before removing it, LipoSelection is able to remove only the fat and to leave the nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue intact (hence its name).

Ultrasound is used in other surgical procedures, such as removing cataracts, where removal of tissue is easier and simpler if that tissue is broken into fragments first. Fat cells are large and soft, with thinner cell membranes around them, and they break more easily than nerve cells, or connective tissue cells. The ultrasound vibration is calibrated such that it affects the fat cells but not their neighbors.

Used for all body areas

During your LipoSelection procedure, the ultrasound is transmitted through a slim grooved probe. The grooves give the probe a slightly corrugated surface, so that it effectively assists the ultrasound. In partnership, they fragment the unwanted fatty tissue more quickly and effectively than would be done using a smooth probe. LipoSelection also uses a specialized type of cannula for removing the fat more efficiently after it’s been emulsified.

Because of the small diameter and effectiveness of the probe, LipoSelection can be done for all areas of the body, even the smaller or more delicate ones such as:
Under the chin
The nose area
The hands
The neck
The inner thighs

Faster recovery

Although it’s a surgical procedure, and all surgery brings some risk, with LipoSelection, you’ll have:
Less bruising, because the procedure leaves all but the fatty tissue unaffected
Less pain, so that you will likely need no pain medication
No stitches, because the small incision will heal itself
Less down time, since the body is less traumatized
A smoother result, because the ultrasound selectiveness allows us to sculpt your treated area more precisely

Am I a candidate?

If your weight is relatively normal, but you have persistent areas of fat, such as “saddle bags” or a belly, you could be a good candidate. Age isn’t a limiting factor, although an older person may not achieve results quite as remarkable as a younger person because aging skin has less elasticity.

Some disqualifying conditions could be:
Diabetes
Heart or lung problems
Poor circulation

Other than that, if you have realistic expectations and are psychologically stable, you should be a good candidate.
