Breast Implants

Little Rock

While deciding whether or not to have breast augmentation may be the most difficult choice to make, after you have decided to undergo breast augmentation, there are many other decisions that will have to make.

The type of breast implant you choose is very important.  Not only does the type of implant affect the appearance of your breasts after the surgery, but also the way your breasts feel, and even the chance of complications arising after the surgery.

While considering what type of breast implant is best for you, schedule a free initial breast augmentation consultation at the Cosmetic Surgery Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.  This will allow you to meet with Dr. Branman at our clinic where we will evaluate your body, listen to your expectations, goals and fears, and help you determine which type of breast implant is right for you.

Your breast implants come in different shapes, textures, filing materials, and sizes.  Each of these factors has their own advantages and disadvantages as well.

Breast Implant Shape
Breast implants can be either round or contoured.  Round implants are designed to move freely in the pocket, while contoured implants are shaped like a teardrop and are designed to stay stationary in the breast implant pocket.

Contoured breast implants were developed for women undergoing breast reconstruction who wanted a breast implant that resembled the natural shape of a breast.  Round breast implants are the most common implant and usually take the form of a teardrop one the patient is completely healed, and when the patient is standing upright.

Breast Implant Texture
Breast implants can be either smooth or textured.  Textured implants have a thicker shell and are designed to prevent capsular contracture and to not move around in the breast implant pocket.  Smooth breast implants are designed so that they can move and rotate within the breast implant pocket.

Although they have been developed to prevent capsular contracture, there is no concrete evidence that textured implants actually reduce the occurrence of this complication.

Breast Implant Filling Material
Breast implants can be filled with either silicone gel or a sterile saline solution.  Saline breast implants are the considered to be safer because the saline solution will not harm the body if the implant were to rupture or leak.

Although silicone breast implants have been banned for years, with new forms of cohesive silicone gel, the possibility of having your breast implants filled with silicone may become more of a reality in the near future.

Breast Implant Size
Breast implants come in almost any size imaginable.  The appropriate size for your breast augmentation procedure will be determined by the results you want to achieve, the placement of the breast implant, and your existing body and breast size and shape.

Contact Dr. Branman in Little Rock, Arkansas to schedule your free initial consultation.  During the consultation, we will evaluate your health, body size and shape, and your existing breast tissue to help you determine what type of breast implant is right for you.
