Laser Hair Removal in Little Rock

Laser hair removal is one of the most popular procedures with our patients here at our Little Rock med spa, and for good reason. Just a few treatments can permanently get rid of unwanted facial or body hair, freeing you from the pain and inconvenience of shaving, waxing, and messy, strong-smelling creams.

Where Can You Use Laser Hair Removal?

We can remove unwanted hair from anywhere on the face or body. The most common areas we treat for women are the face, underarms, bikini area, and legs. For men, the chest and back are popular areas to have treated.

How Many Treatments are Necessary?

Because hair growth is cyclical, laser hair removal requires several visits to obtain a satisfactory result. In a given area of the body, not all of the hairs are at the same phase of growth at the same time. Laser hair removal will treat the active hair follicles, but not the inactive ones. Subsequent treatments will target the remaining hair follicles until (ideally) all follicles have been shut down.

For most patients, this means 5 or 6 treatments are needed to ensure that all the hair in the treated area is gone. Depending on how dense and thick the hair growth is that is being targeted, you may need a few more treatments.

The amount of time between treatments will vary somewhat according to the body area being treated. For the chin area, for example, it would be about four weeks. For legs, it would be six to eight weeks.

Who can benefit from Laser Hair Removal in Little Rock?

It was once the case that people with gray or fair hair could not benefit from laser hair removal, so only those with dark hair and fair skin were treated. This was because of short wavelength lasers that could not penetrate the skin deep enough, so the skin pigment would absorb the laser light rather than the hair follicle.

It’s still true that people with darker hair respond better to laser hair removal than people with gray or blond hair, but with the recent advancements of laser hair removal technology, patients with darker skin and/or lighter hair are no longer ruled out from being good candidates for treatment.

Introducing EpiLaze® Hair Removal System

At Cosmetic Surgery Center, we prefer to use the EpiLaze® Hair Removal System from Rohrer Aesthetics on our Little Rock patients.

EpiLaze® Hair Removal System is the first and only laser hair removal machine with three FDA-cleared lasers proven to remove hair and permanently reduce hair pigmentation. Unlike other laser hair removal systems, EpiLaze can treat all skin types.

The EpiLaze lasers come with two different modes: Standard mode and Smooth Flow Technology (SFT) mode. While in SFT mode, the EpiLaze can dissipate up to ten pulses of energy per second, allowing our Exhale Med Spa technicians to effectively treat large areas, including the chest, back, and legs, in less than 20 minutes.

During your treatment, the chilled sapphire tips gently cool your skin, making the EpiLaze laser hair removal treatments safe and effective – with little to no discomfort.

Which laser is right for my skin type?

The EpiLaze® Hair Removal System includes three different lasers that are each uniquely suited for different types of skin on the Fitzpatrick skin typing scale.

For fair skin types: EpiLaze Alexandrite Icon

The Alexandrite laser delivers a 755nm light wavelength proven most effective for fair skin types, specifically, types I and II on the Fitzpatrick scale. This wavelength is considered the best for removing fine hair.

For medium skin types: EpiLaze 810 Diode Icon

The 810nm Diode laser hair removal system is preferred for medium skin types such as III and IV on the Fitzpatrick scale; however, it remains effective for skin types I and II. Compared to the Alexandrite, the 810nm Diode delivers a longer wavelength of light capable of penetrating the follicle while causing even less skin damage.

For dark skin types: Long Pulsed YAG

The Long-Pulsed YAG can treat a wide range of skin types, but is optimal for removing unwanted body hair on people with darker skin tones. The Long-Pulsed YAG light wavelength is most effective on V and VI skin types, as it offers outstanding results without unnecessary skin damage.
