Top Picks for Spring Fun in Little Rock

January 16, 2020 - Rhys Branman, MD

family having fun in Little RockSpring is here and things are heating up in Little Rock. Now is the perfect time to plan some springtime fun. Little Rock is home to some of the very best family friendly attractions in Arkansas. Here are five of our favorites:

1: Explore the great outdoors

Pack the car with a picnic lunch and hit the road for a trip to Lake Degray or Lake Dardanelle, two family-friendly state parks. Pinnacle Mountain State Park is just a short drive from Little Rock. Older kids will enjoy an overnight camping trip in one of Arkansas’s more than 40 state parks. Don’t forget the s’mores and ghost stories!

2: Go on a mini-safari

Spot giraffes, elephants, rhinos, tigers, lions, and more at the Little Rock Zoo. Don’t miss the “Big Cat Habitat” that is home to lions, tigers, and jaguars. Come face-to-fang with a deadly reptile in the zoo’s famous “Reptile House.” Younger kids will love the carousel ride, lunch at the animal-themed Cafe Africa, and a visit to the “Children’s Farm.” With more than 725 animals representing over 200 species, including many on the endangered list, the Little Rock Zoo is a unique opportunity to introduce your children to these majestic creatures.

3: Discover, create, and invent at the “Museum of Discovery”

Don’t let a spring rainstorm dampen your fun! When the weather is not cooperating for outdoor activities, head straight to the Museum of Discovery. The museum is home to a one-of-a-kind, 450-square-foot tinkering studio, where kids of all ages can discover, create, and invent. More than 90 state-of-the-art interactive science and technology exhibits encourage learning and creative play.

4: Jump for joy

Some days it can feel like your kids are quite literally jumping off the wall. When you need a constructive outlet for all that energy, head to the Jump Zone, a giant inflatable indoor playground. Older kids will enjoy the Altitude Trampoline Park where they can jump so high they just might touch the sky!

5: Give back

Visit Heifer International’s Heifer Village in Little Rock to learn more about the nonprofit’s work to reduce global hunger. Heifer Village’s interactive, hands-on activities, including an hour-long scavenger hunt, help kids understand the challenges facing other young children across the globe and how they can make a difference right here in Arkansas. Trace the steps involved in bringing food to the table, and learn how to be more connected to our food sources.
