Nearly 15 years ago, the FDA banned silicone breast implants because they were believed to cause various Connective Tissue Disorders (CTDs). Now, however, after years of rigorous testing and numerous studies, the FDA has determined that silicone breast implants are both safe and effective for breast augmentation surgery.

Choosing the Correct Implant Type

The choice to have breast augmentation is very personal, and one of the key aspects of the process is choosing the type of breast implant that is right for you.

The difference between silicone breast implants and the more common saline breast implants, is the material used to fill the breast implant shell. All breast implants are made out of a silicone outer shell.
