Laser Skin Tightening

Little Rock, Arkansas

Laser skin tightening is an easy way to have a younger-looking face with no stitches and no downtime, and we at The Cosmetic Surgery Center are offering it using our new Sciton laser.

Laser skin tightening is non-surgical, meaning that unlike a facelift, there are no incisions. This avoids all the usual risks of surgical procedures, such as bruising, swelling, bleeding and scarring. None of that with laser skin tightening!

How does it work?

The laser's beam shines through the skin surface to the collagen underneath, and heats it without burning the skin. This heat makes the skin tighten, which you can notice immediately, and stimulates the growth of new collagen. Over the next few months, you can see the younger and fresher look to your skin which results from having more new skin cells.

If you'd like to, you can have two or three treatments spaced about four weeks apart, to repeat this rejuvenation and achieve more dramatic and long-term results.

Collagen

Collagen is a protein present everywhere in the body. It makes up the fibers of connective tissue in skin and tendons, and the organic substance of bones. In our skin, it has a network of fibers in the layer below the surface, (the dermis). This network allows blood vessels to grow, and other skin cells, and gives support to the skin, keeping it smooth.

Age and sun exposure damage this collagen network. They weaken it and make it less resilient, or elastic, so that as we use our facial muscles for expression, and submit daily to the pull of gravity, the skin gives way and wrinkles form.

This is where the work of our Sciton laser comes in. That laser beam, in applying precise and measured amounts of heat energy to the dermis, stimulates the collagen in that fibrous network to regrow. Collagen can take anywhere from three to six months to grow, so that for that time period you'll continue to notice improvement in your skin tone and appearance.

What is the skin tightening treatment like?

Dr. Branman or Dr. Devlin will use a small handheld device to direct rapid pulses of Sciton laser light on to your skin. You'll feel a growing warmth in the area which lasts just a few minutes. As soon as the treatment is finished, you'll notice a difference and as the collagen begins to regrow, the youthful results will become more and more apparent.

A skin tightening treatment does not have to be confined to the face. It can be done anywhere on the body, such as the throat, arms, or buttocks. In some cases it is a better option than liposuction or a mini tummy tuck.

Some of the same benefits are gained from having a Sciton laser skin resurfacing, which is another procedure we can offer you. In skin resurfacing, the laser actually removes the top layer of skin, the epidermis, and can give more dramatic results. The collagen below the epidermis, in the dermis, responds to loss of the epidermis by growing more skin cells. You can read more about laser skin resurfacing here.
