Saline Breast Implants
Little Rock
On November 17, 2006, the FDA approved silicone breast implants to be used in breast augmentation surgery. With this approval, Dr. Rhys L. Branman are able to offer all their patients from Little Rock and all over Arkansas more breast enhancement options than ever before.
Nearly 15 years ago, the FDA banned silicone breast implants because they were believed to cause various Connective Tissue Disorders (CTDs). Now, however, after years of rigorous testing and numerous studies, the FDA has determined that silicone breast implants both safe and effective for breast augmentation surgery.
The choice to have breast augmentation surgery is very personal, and one of the key aspects of choosing breast enhancement is choosing the type of breast implant that is right for you.
The difference between silicone breast implants and the more common saline breast implants, is the material used to fill the breast implant shell. All breast implants are made out of a silicone shell. Saline breast implants are filled with a saltwater solution, while silicone breast implants are filled with a cohesive silicone gel.
One of the biggest benefits of silicone breast implants over saline breast implants is the look and feel of the breast implant after they have been placed. Silicone breast implants are softer and feel more natural than saline breast implants.
Another benefit of silicone breast implants is the reduced risk of post-operative complications, such as rippling. Since the cohesive silicone gel used in the implants is thicker, is it less likely to slosh around, resulting in fewer cases of rippling after the breast implants have been placed.
