Microdermabrasion

Is your complexion dull and lifeless?  Has your skin texture worsened over time? If so, you may benefit from Microdermabrasion, an advanced exfoliation procedure that we perform in our Little Rock Surgery office.

When to undergo Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is popular among patients who exhibit the following conditions:

  1. Mild sun damage
  2. Fine wrinkles
  3. Poor skin texture
  4. Hyperpigmentation
  5. Acne
  6. Scars

The Microdermabrasion Procedure

The procedure stimulates skin cell turnover by gently scraping away the outermost layer of skin.  Fine crystals or microparticles are blown onto the face in a controlled manner, which causes a superficial wound to occur on the treated skin. (It is not painful)  Your body’s natural healing process works to bring fresh, more attractive skin to the surface.  Other methods of skin rejuvenation work in a similar fashion, but few of them are as easy and as comfortable as microdermabrasion.   After the crystals are blown onto the skin, a vacuum line is used to remove them from the area.

Sometimes a series of treatments is recommended to reduce fine wrinkles and uneven pigmentation.  After treatment, you may experience some redness and very mild discomfort, which should resolve after a brief time.

Microdermabrasion is a minor procedure, so patients should be realistic and expect modest improvements.  With that in mind, remember that many times a modest improvement in skin tone can significantly enhance your overall appearance.

Due to loose FDA regulation, almost anyone can administer microdermabrasion treatments. To achieve the best results and minimize the risk of complications, we strongly recommend that you choose a qualified medical practitioner such as Dr. Branman.
