What exactly is BOTOX?
BOTOX is a natural, purified protein produced by the clostridium botulinum bacterium. Very low doses are injected directly into the overactive muscles that cause lines to form. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles. The effects are usually confined to the injected region; it does not travel anywhere else in the body.
Is BOTOX safe?
When administered by a qualified provider, BOTOX has been used safely and successfully for over 20 years in treating patients with a variety of conditions. BOTOX Cosmetic uses a very low dose of the neurotoxin to achieve the desired results. Because it’s highly localized and administered intramuscularly, its effects are usually confined to the region of injection, and BOTOX does not remain in your body indefinitely.
Significant side effects are unlikely, although some patients may experience headaches, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea. BOTOX should not be used if there is an infection near the injection site.
What can I expect from a treatment?
Dr. Branman or our Nurse Injector Leslie will determine exactly where to administer injections to achieve the best results. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. You may resume normal activity immediately, and your results should be apparent within about 4 days. Results typically last 3-4 months for most patients.
BOTOX will not radically change your appearance or make you look like you’ve had “work done.” It will not make you look 20 years younger, but it can help you look more refreshed and youthful.
What is the BOTOX lip flip?
The BOTOX lip flip is a procedure that provides a subtle lift to the upper lip and improves its contour, making the lips look sexier and slightly more defined. Through a series of BOTOX injections in the orbicularis oris muscle (located just above the upper lip), the lip flip temporarily relaxes the upper lip, allowing it to roll slightly upward. The BOTOX lip flip can also be used to:
- Improve the appearance of a gummy smile by helping the upper lip cover the gum line
- Prevent your upper lip from disappearing when you smile
- Help smooth vertical lines above the lips
When will I see my BOTOX lip flip results?
Most patients notice the effects of the BOTOX lip flip within a few days of treatment and full results in about a week.
